Program to find whether a given number is a Happy Number or Not

 What is a Happy Number?

If the sum of the digits is '1' then it's happy number else no

Example:

Number = 19

19  =  1 + 81    = 82  (Sum of squared 1 + squared 9)
82  = 64 + 4     = 68  (Sum of squared 8 + squared 2)
68  = 36 + 64    = 100 (Sum of squared 6 + squared 8)
100 =  1 + 0 + 0 = 1    => Sum of digits is '1' hence '19' is a Happy Number

Program (written using Java)

class Happy {

    public static void main(String args[]) {

        String number = "128";
        int sum = 0, num = 0, i = 0, final_sum = 0;

        while (i < number.length()) {
            num = Character.getNumericValue(number.charAt(i));
            //System.out.println("Char at " + num);
            sum = sum + (num * num);
            i++;

            //System.out.println("Sum is " + sum);

            if ( i == number.length() && String.valueOf(sum).length() != 1  ) {
                i = 0;
                System.out.println("Sum " + sum + "  Length is " + String.valueOf(sum).length());
                number = String.valueOf(sum);
                sum = 0;
            }
        }

        System.out.println("Final sum : " + sum);

    }
}

Why one should NOT become DevOps Engineer ? 3 most important reasons

 After spending 20 years in IT industry I write / say this to my fellow developers

Reason #1:   In market there are more than 100+ tools automation tools available to cater different needs.  One cannot learn or know everything

        GitHub / GitLab / BitBucket / Perforce    - For Source Code Management
        Ansible / Chef / Puppet                         - For Configuration Management
        AKS / EKS / GKE                                  - For Kubernetes based on Cloud that the clients use
        Terraform / ARM / CFT                          - For Infrastructure Automation
        Jenkins / GoCD / Circle CI / Travis CI     - For CI/CD pipelines

Likewise this list grows and learning curve changes often and frankly speaking we cannot master even one in our lifetime.  There can be few exceptions to this which is different

Reason #2:  When you change the company or moving to a different client within the same company they might not use the same tool on which you already worked on

Example you might have worked on GitHub.  But, the new company or new client might be using GitLab

Likewise you might have worked on Terraform.  But the new company or new client might be using ARM

You need to start over from '0'.

Reason #3:  The Most Important of All

When we say MERN stack the technology stack is fixed - Mongo, Express, React and Node
When we say MEAN stack the technology stack is fixed - Mongo, Express, Angular and Node

But, what happens when we say DevOps?

Technology Stack is NOT fixed and changes from company to company.

Company A might be using GitHub, Terraform, Ansible and Jenkins
Company B might be using GitLab, Terragrunt, Chef and Bamboo

Adding insult to injury following is also included as part of DevOps in majority of the companies

Linux Administration
Python Programming
Cloud Platform Automation (eg IAM Roles, OIDC, Cluster Management, Patching and other administration activities etc)

Let me know if you have any queries

Thanks

Setting up OpenStack and creating a VM instance

1.      Create an EC2 Instance in AWS with the following requirements

CPU – 4 cores or more

RAM – 16 GB or more

Storage  - 80 GB or more

Screen shot is given below for your reference

2.      Post creation of EC2 instance, SSH into the newly created VM using the PEM file.  Example is given below and use the public ip of the VM (not private ip)

3.      Follow the setup instructions to setup DevStack

Note:  Execute ‘sudo apt update’ prior executing the following commands

a.      Create a new user ‘stack’ and add the new user to the sudo’ers group as shown below

b.      su to user ‘stack’ and clone the Devstack module from github repo

c.      “cd devstack” and create the file “local.conf” with the following contents in it

d.      Execute ./stack.sh and let it complete it’s process

e.      Upon successful execution of  ./stack.sh we should see similar screen as mentioned below

4.      Allow the port 22 which will enable SSH Logon to the new instance that is to be created

5.      Create a new VM using “openstack server create” command

6.      Upon successful completion we should see a screen similar to the below one

7.      Create a floating ip and connect to VM using floating ip as shown below

8.      Connect to the horizon using the public ip of aws ec2 instance as shown below and select the project as “demo” from the drop down

We should be able to see our newly created vm instance
